Do you offer tele-psychiatry/ video sessions?

Yes, we are available to meet for appointments by video.

Which insurance plans do you accept "in-network"?

We are considered participating or "in-network" providers with the insurance providers listed below.  Your portion (co-pay, co-insurance, and/or deductible) will be based upon your particular health insurance plan's benefits.  Please consult your insurance plan website or contact your plan directly with questions.

  • Aetna

  • Humana

  • UC Berkeley Student Health Plan

What does "out-of-network" provider mean and how does this work?

We are considered "Out-of-Network" providers with all other insurance plans.  Many insurance plans reimburse a significant portion of out-of-network provider charges for psychiatry visits, often 60-80% or more.  Please contact your insurance carrier to inquire about your plan's benefits. Here are some questions you might want to ask:

  • Do I have an annual deductible for outpatient mental health visits with a psychiatrist?

  • If so, have I met this deductible?

  • What is my co-pay or co-insurance per visit?

We can help you seek reimbursement by either providing "Superbill" statements with the necessary billing information, or oftentimes we may be able to electronically submit claims on your behalf, depending on your insurance carrier.

What is your cancellation/rescheduling policy?

Once we schedule your appointment, I hold that time specially for you. For cancellations or rescheduling, please contact me at least 2 full business days prior to your appointment, so that I have sufficient time to reschedule someone else who may be in need. For example, if your appointment is on Tuesday at 1pm, please call me no later than the previous Friday at 1pm to cancel. If you do not provide two business days notice, you will be responsible for the full session fee. Unfortunately, insurance companies do not reimburse for late cancellations. Emergencies are handled on a case-by-case basis.

How can I request prescription refills?

Medication prescriptions should be discussed and handled during our scheduled appointment visits. Sufficient medication will be prescribed at each appointment to last until the next planned follow-up appointment. Medication prescription requests outside of sessions will be handled on a case-by-case basis. If a refill is needed between appointments, please contact me by phone or schedule a sooner appointment for us to meet.  Please be aware I do not respond to pharmacies requests without also hearing from patients directly (as pharmacies consistently fax erroneous automatic requests). Time spent on your care outside of appointments, including prescription requests, is not covered by insurance and will be billed on a pro-rated basis. Typical charges for prescriptions outside of session are $50-100.
